Kubuntu Long-Term Support release cycles last for three (3) years. The release code is shown in the format YYYY.MM. Kubuntu 24.04 LTS was released in April 2024 and is supported through April 2027. Kubuntu 22.04 LTS was released in April 2022 and is supported through April 2025.
We recommend a Clean Installation as the preferred upgrade path. As with any OS upgrade, this will provide for the fewest software and configuration conflicts, and is almost always faster if you take the proper precautions. Make sure you backup your data and then follow the Clean Install guide.
In-place upgrades are not available until after the release of Kubuntu 24.04.1 LTS in August 2024. Please do a Clean Install to upgrade your system.
In-place upgrades are done at your own risk. Due to possible configuration conflicts and missing features, we do not support this upgrade method. In testing, we found issues that are hard or impossible for a novice to fix. We highly encourage you to back up your data and do a Clean Install instead.
