Redshift Blue Light Filter
Reduce eyestrain

Purpose

Reduce eyestrain using the Redshift blue light filter. These have become popular to reduce eyestrain and help maintain circadian rhythms. Users created after March 2020 should see the Redshift widget enabled in the system tray.

Option 1: Enable in System Tray

The video shows how to enable the Redshift filter in the system tray. Eric Adams is the author of this quality video. If you use this technique, we recommend you stop here as adding a Plasma widget is redundant.

Option 2: Add a Plasma Widget

2.1 Unlock widgets

18.04. Right-click on the panel and select Unlock Widgets.

20.04. This step is not needed or available.

2.2 Add Widget to panel

Search for Redshift in the Widget panel (shown here at left).

Double-click on the widget to add to the panel. A (1) will appear in the panel to indicate success.

2.3. Reposition the widget

The widget as appended to the end of the panel — in this case, at the bottom right corner.

Right click on the panel and select Panel Setting…

Grab and drag the widget to the desired location.

Right click on the widget to configure.

Geohints generally works well.

2.5 Toggle Redshift

Click on the widget to toggle Redshift on and off.

Right-click on the desktop to Lock widgets again.
